ABOUT MOUNT ELBRUS

Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Europe, and the tenth most prominent peak in the world. A dormant volcano, Elbrus is in the Caucasus Mountains in Southern Russia, near the border with Georgia and Abkhazia.

Please, keep in mind:

Depending on snow and weather conditions the trip itinerary may be changed in consultation with the group. The shuttle departs from Mineralnye Vody Airport (MRV) at 13.00 (1 PM). If you arrive later, we can order you a taxi. Approximate price to get from the airport to Terskol village by taxi is about 70 EURO. We will meet you upon arrival in Terskol.

Required Gear List for this Trip:

We always strongly recommend you to have your own personal climbing equipment. It helps you feel more comfortable during the entire climbing and to get the most out of it! Below we have listed the full list of all necessary equipment for your climbing. Please, check it out and make sure that you already have it or let us know the list of items you need to hire in advance.

Important! Special requirements for participants:

  • Medically fit for Alpine climbing on high altitudes. We need to look at your medical examinations, which should indicate that you have no contraindications to engage in this type of activity in the mountains and that you are completely healthy and in an adequate mental state.
  • Before arrival in Russia, please carefully check all the necessary information for foreign citizens entering the country. This information could be found on the website of the Russian Federation embassy of your country. For example, if you are a Canadian citizen, you have to check the website of the Russian Federation embassy in Canada, etc. Some laws are very new and constantly changing and may differ for citizens of certain countries! Please keep in mind, it is your responsibility to be aware of the necessary requirements for entering the country! Russian Mountain Holidays (RMH Ltd.) will not be responsible for ANY problems that may arise from the violation of customs laws of the Russian Federation.
  •  Age limit — not less than 18 years old, and not older than 50 years old.

Mandatory! Required documents:

  • International Medical & Evacuation Insurance for Alpine Climbing which includes helicopter evacuation in case of emergency. PLEASE, KEEP IN MIND, IN CASE OF EMERGENCY DUE TO INJURY WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE HELICOPTER EVACUATION EVEN IF THE GUEST DOES NOT HAVE EVACUATION INSURANCE.
  • Passport.
  • Russian Tourist Visa.
  • A Medical Examination Certificate which indicates that you have no contraindications to engage in this type of activity in the mountains at high altitudes and that you are completely healthy and in an adequate mental state. We need to look at your Medical Examination Certificate at least 3 months before your arrival. The results should be fresh. We accept the usual medical certificate from your family doctor for an overall health check + cardiologist check. Please, take it seriously! WITHOUT MEDICAL EXAMINATION WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE YOUR BOOKING AND SELL YOUR SPOT IN THE GROUP TO THE NEXT PERSON ON THE WAITING LIST.

Signing the WAIVER OF CLAIMS:

Alpine climbing or mountaineering always comes with a certain risk and is dangerous. Our job is to reduce this risk to a minimum as much as possible, but it’s still there. Buying this Tour you have to understand and be aware of the seriousness of this program and the possibility of the risk. Upon arrival on the first day of the trip, every guest will be asked to read and sign the RELEASE OF LIABILITY, WAIVER OF CLAIMS, ASSUMPTION OF RISKS AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT.

Day 1:

Arrival day. Group transfer at 13:00 (1 PM) from Mineralnye Vody Airport (MRV) to Terskol village. Accommodation at the RMH lodge. Welcome briefing and orientation. Signing Waivers and required documentation. Gear check. Overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 2:

Acclimatization hike to Mount Terskol, Devechie Kosy waterfall — 2800 m. Overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 3:

Ascent to the high camp. Accommodation at the mountain hut at 3840 m. Acclimatization hike up to 4100 m. (Hut № 11). Overnight stay in the mountain hut.

Day 4:

Acclimatization hike up to Pastukhova Rocks — 4800 m. Overnight stay in the mountain hut.

Day 5:

Rest day. Snow & Ice training with basic level self-arrest course. Guides meeting with a group. Overnight stay in the mountain hut.

Day 6:

Summit day. Descent to the valley. Overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 7:

Reserve day / Light hiking (Terskol Creek). Certificates presentation. Overnight stay at the lodge

Day 8:

Departure day. Morning transfer at 10:00 (10 AM) from Terskol village to Mineralnye Vody Airport(MRV).

Before you pack your gear please acquire a standard travel bag for general clothing before and after the climb. We will make provision at the respected hotel to keep your bag safe until your return. The list provided here will be sufficient for the climb, however feel free to add items as you desire as every individual’s needs and taste differ.

NOTE: It is possible to rent items such as Boots, Crampons, Ice Axe and Harness in our rental. Also, if climbing from the South side, there is a good gear shop with many top brands for sale.
