6 Day Marangu Route

The Marangu Route is one of the most popular routes and is also known as the “Coca Cola” or “Tourist” route. It is a fairly easy route and is also the shortest route up to the summit. This is the only route with the comforts of sleeping in huts at every camp site with solar lighting and comfortable beds. The huts are communal, and the bunks have a sponge mattress and pillow.

6 Day Machame Route

The Machame Route which also referred to as the ‘Whiskey” Route. It is now becoming the most popular route. It is also one of the most scenic routes over the mountain. The time spend walking per day is much longer and steeper on this route than on the Marangu Route. The spectacular scenery and interesting landscape makes up for this however.

6 Day Rongai Route

The Rongai Route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north. Starting point for this route is close to the Kenyan border. The Rongai Routes low traffic makes it more preferable to less experience hikers, as this is the easiest route up the mountain. The route has the highest success rate for conquering the mountain out of all the routes available. This route preferred for those looking for an alternative to the crowded Marangu route. This route is also preferred for those who are climbing during the rainy season (the north side receives less precipitation).

6 Day Shira Route

The Shira Route is a difficult route and not recommended for climbers with minimal climbing exposure. The route begins in the west at the Shira Gate. The first part of the route is not hiked but rather driven. Therefore, climbers miss out on hiking through the ecological zone, the rain forest.
